There’s a dream our God is dreaming

Will we dare to dream the same?

Come, go out, take up our lanterns

And let love ignite the flame.

World Environment Day – 5 June

World Environment Day was established by the United Nations in 1972 to stimulate worldwide awareness of the environment and encourage political attention and action. It is celebrated annually on 5 June. The United Nations has declared 2013 the International Year of Quinoa.

The theme for World Environment Day is Think.Eat.Save focusing on sustainable food production and consumption. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), every year 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted. This is equivalent to the same amount produced in the whole of sub-Saharan Africa. At the same time, 1 in every 7 people in the world go to bed hungry and more than 20,000 children under the age of 5 die daily from hunger. Given this enormous imbalance in lifestyles and the resultant devastating effects on the environment, this year’s theme – Think.Eat.Save – encourages us to become more aware of the environmental impact of the food choices we make and empowers us to make informed decisions.

7 short video clips of Mary Coloe pbvm teaching the Gospel of John at Ecce Homo

01 Ecce Homo & Ecce Mater Tua in John’s Gospel by Dr Mary Coloe

13 Sep 2012 … This is the 1st of 7 parts of a lecture presented by Dr Mary Coloe, Associate Professor of New Testament at Australian Catholic University, Melbourne, at ‘The Center for Biblical Formation – Notre Dame de Sion’ located at the place called “Ecce Homo – Behold the Man” in the Old City of Jerusalem. In this lecture “Ecce Homo & Ecce Mater Tua” she traces these phrases and the meaning that were written in the Gospel of John. Dr Coloe points out that in order to talk about these 2 phrases which are part of the Passion Narrative we must begin with some of the earlier narratives. The clues are in John 1:1-18 (the Prologue), 2:16-21 & 7:37-39.

The other 6 parts can be found to the right of the 1st part.

2013 Easter Message from Society Leadership Team

Risen Christ … show us now, we pray,
The wonder of your living presence
Not in wisps or doubtful glimpses,
but in the glory of life hard won
Sweeping through our souls in splendour
And beyond us into a waiting world…

May the wonder of Easter
break forth anew in us
in those we love and in all the earth
on this day and the days to come.

Earth Hour 2013 – 23 March 8.30pm

Earth Hour 2013 – Uniting People to Protect the Planet – will be held on Saturday 23 March at 8:30pm-9:30pm wherever you are in the world. So save the date and keep coming back to and to see the world unite to protect the planet.

There is no doubt about it: the world is facing some of the most critical environmental challenges in its history. That may make the journey to a sustainable future seem difficult to imagine, but it is far from impossible. Change this big needs you. It needs every one of us. Together our individual actions add up to make a difference collectively. In fact, change is already underway.

The Earth Hour phenomenon was started in Australia and embraced by the world. Earth Hour is a gathering of the global community to show what one simple idea can achieve, and what one person’s actions can inspire. Thanks to your support, it has become the largest global movement for the environment. It is much, much more than a symbolic action of switching off lights for an hour; it’s a continuous movement driving real actions, big and small, that are changing the world we live in. From new legislation in the Russian parliament to better protect seas from oil pollution, to the initiation of two huge reforestation projects in Africa – the impact of Earth Hour is widespread and real.
