7th International Presentation Association meeting in Sydney
80 Presentation people from around the world will gather in North Sydney from 23 – 30 September 2017 for the 7th International Presentation Association (IPA) Assembly with the theme: Our Feet know the Way … Our Hearts carry the Light. The assembly will reflect on the IPA Mission that is both local and global, with its justice work at the United Nations focused in four areas – Women and children, Indigenous peoples, Environment and Human rights.
Continuing from the last IPA Assembly in 2012 at St John’s, Newfoundland Canada, the North Sydney assembly will include co-workers and associates with sisters, together being Presentation people.

The beginnings of IPA arose from a meeting of Presentation leaders in Rome in 1981. In 1984, the Australian Society of Presentation Sisters hosted a national gathering to mark the 200th Anniversary of the death of the founder, Nano Nagle, and invitations were extended to Presentation leaders from around the globe.
“Nano’s contemplative spirit gave her a vision that extended beyond the winding lanes of Cork [Ireland] to encompass gospel service that was global. The seeds of the International Presentation Association are in this vision.” (Kathleen Tynan of Presentation Congregation Queensland who was a founding Leader)
The first international assembly was held in Perth, Western Australia in 1991 with the theme: Beyond the Possible – catching up and stretching the imagination for mission.
The second IPA Assembly in Portarlington, Ireland was held in 1995: Walking in the footsteps of Nano – journeying into the future.
At Esopus, New York State USA in 1999, the third IPA Assembly had the theme: Jubilee Justice – Restoring Right Relationships – for defining our call to the heart of justice.
A New Dreaming seeking Wholeness of Creation – evolving our understanding of restoring right relationships, was the theme for the fourth IPA Assembly held at Coolangatta, Queensland in 2003.
For the fifth assembly held at Bangalore, India in 2007, the theme was Listen to … the cry of the earth: bringing a contemplative awareness and presence to the life and ministry of IPA.
For the sixth IPA Assembly at St John’s, Newfoundland the theme was Consciousness Evolving – deepening our consciousness of the Universe story and of the interconnectedness of the whole community of life.
Presentation people in Australia and Papua New Guinea look forward to welcoming our international visitors to Sydney for the 7th IPA Assembly.
