PNG Ministry with Callan Services at Wewak
Sr Regina Sabau describes her ministry with Callan Services based in Wewak PNG.
Callan Services provides education, health and community based rehabilitation services for people with disabilities.
“Each day families come to the Resource Centre for a variety of Services. I would really like to learn ‘sign language’ for our people who are deaf so that I can communicate better with them. At the moment I can sign ‘good morning’ and ‘thank you’.
“I began working with Callan Services in 2013 as an Administration Assistant. I like my ministry very much. A lot of my day is helping with the book work, finances, going to the bank.
When I am not too busy I like to help other staff with their activities. My favourite way of helping is with the early intervention activities. I like to help prepare for clinics and assist where I can with the families.
I am often asked to drive staff to the outside locations for the Pikinini Clinic. The office truck isn’t always in good condition so I help with our Presentation [Sisters’] truck.” (Sr Regina Sabau)
Callan Services is a work of the Edmund Rice Foundation (Australia). The Network of Callan Services in PNG was started by the Christian Brothers in collaboration with other religious and in partnership with the Catholic Dioceses.
The vision of Callan Services is to create an inclusive society for PNG where people and especially children with disability live life to the full without discrimination and other forms of injustice.
