What does our community really think about Australia’s refugee program?
Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA) staff and volunteers have released the results of the most recent annual consultation with people from refugee backgrounds and the services that support them. This is a crucial first-hand insight into how our Government’s policies are affecting those on the front line. RCOA has also submitted this to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection’s consultation on Australia’s 2017-2018 Refugee and Humanitarian Program.
The submission is complete with recommendations for a more humane approach to the global displacement crisis, including a significant increase into the intake quota, the establishment of an Emergency Contingency quota, an expansion of private refugee sponsorship, and recommendations to reform Jobactive.
Presentation Society Justice Contacts recommend that you read the Executive Summary at least.
The theme of 2017 Refugee Week is taken from Australia’s national anthem: “With courage let us all combine”. For more information on events near you and the Refugee Film Festival in Sydney and Melbourne go to http://www.refugeecouncil.org.au/refugee-week/
