Papua New Guinea Foundation House Burnt Down
In the early evening of 28th July the house built at Ningil for the sisters when the first community from Australia arrived there on 2nd February 1966 was totally destroyed by fire. The five National sisters who now form the Ningil community, were unhurt but very distraught at the loss. Nothing was saved as there was no means of getting water to the fire – even had there been sufficient water. The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed.
The PNG sisters had commenced the planning of celebrations to mark the Golden Jubilee of the Foundation at Ningil. The sisters will talk with the Bishop of the Aitape Diocese about plans for the future. Please keep the sisters and the local people in your prayers.
