Alexandra’s work at the UN with IPA
Alexandra Miller (together with Presentation Sisters Elsa Muttathu, Helen Martinez, Margaret Mary Mooney and Jancy Selvaraj) is currently volunteering with the International Presentation Association Non-Government Organisation at the United Nations in New York. The months of September and October are a busy time at the United Nations and in only three weeks since her arrival, she has already had the opportunity to become involved in the many dimensions of United Nations life.
The current focus of her work with the International Presentation Association is sustainable development, financing for sustainable development and issues affecting women, children and the poor. In particular, she has already assisted with the following:
- Submission of a statement on child rights to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child;
- Attendance and reporting on the United Nations Third Committee meetings;
- Attendance at the International Day of Older Persons and most recently, volunteering at the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty; and
- Attendance and participation at various NGO committee meetings.
She is very much looking forward to becoming even more involved in the weeks to come.
