Sr. Betty’s visit to Sydney
Sr Betty Singamai from Papua New Guinea recently visited Sydney to attend the Society Justice Contacts’ Meeting and undergo training and support for her new role as the Justice Contact for the Papua New Guinea Sisters.
Betty recently graduated from Madang Divine Word University with a Masters Degree in the combined fields of Education/Social Work and Religious Studies. Betty was appointed this year to the Aitape Diocesan Pastoral Team in the Sandaun Province of PNG and is in the process of discovering all the facets of her new and challenging Ministry.
During the time in Sydney Betty visited Domremy College to experience Religious Education in a Senior school setting and look at programmes and resources. This was a far cry from her recent experience of teaching the homeless youth in a makeshift school set up for this purpose in Port Moresby!
Betty also attended a meeting of the College’s Student Justice Group who were eager to hear about the Sisters’ Ministries and lives in Papua New Guinea. The Students reported they ‘felt inspired’ by the encounter they had with Sr Betty and they are now exploring practical ways to assist mothers and babies in PNG.
Presentation Ministries at The Nagle Centre in Campbelltown welcomed Sr Betty as she learned of the work of Macarther NILs, Nano Nagle Camps for Youth, Community Support and the Animation Programme.
