Author: admin2

January 21 was a day of great celebration for the Western Australian Congregation when Sisters

Joan Evans, Goretti Keane, Rita Goodchild, Angela Dowling, de Lourdes Mansfield. Agnes Griffin, Raphael Porter, Frances O’Halloran, Vincent O’Connor, Aquinas McMahon,  Mai Delahunty, Bridie Rafter, Phyllis Robertson and Esther Quinn celebrated 60 years Profession as Presentation Sisters.

The sisters assembled at Iona Convent where Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB celebrated Mass with the Diamond Jubilarians. Following the Mass a beautiful meal was enjoyed by all. This was a joyous occasion for the Congregation. The deceased sisters from the group were also remembered.

Sister Kathleen Laffan, in her thanksgiving address acknowledged the dedication and work of the sisters;-

“In 1954 these young women were at the beginning of a heroic 60 years , with the words of Isaiah as their vision “Our youth will be gifted with the right to learn and be educated in dignity and service for the common good. All of creation will be cherished and sustained, and the whole cosmos will rejoice.”

She continued, “Through your Religious Profession you committed yourself to this vision of Isaiah. By your dedication and prayer you have fulfilled God’s plan for you working in the Spirit of Nano. We celebrate your faithfulness to the journey of the past 60 years and your courage to live out the choice you made to follow the call of Jesus to discipleship – “You did not choose me, I chose you”

“We thank you for your lives of faithful service in various ministries and for the generous contribution to the life of the Congregation and the Church in Western Australia”

Thankyou for your contribution you have made to my spiritual life that has been my bedrock, the broad education you gave that enriched my life and the lives of many others at Iona.
