Message from Sr Neneth Robledo PBVM from the Philippines ….
Sr Neneth Robledo writes ….
“The people are gradually putting their lives back, rebuilding themselves and their houses. But so many have left Tacloban and the ones left there are starting from scratch. A lot of help from all over the world has rained down to the different places which are badly affected.
Sr. Mary Deane, the Central Leadership have set up an account in Monasterevin (Ireland) for the Disaster Victims. They have channelled already funds to us, and what we are doing is we channel it to groups who are hands on in the relief distribution and are directly engaged in helping the people. The big amount we are channelling to the Association of the major Religious Superiors of the Philippines (AMRSP) since they have access to a wider area through the different mission partners. They look at all the affected places and we are assured that funds are carefully guarded and wisely used.
We also gave a part of funds to the Redemptorist Fathers who are directly housing and taking care of the evacuees who seek refuge in their church, which was lucky enough to remain standing after the storm surge.
Another part goes to RMP (Rural Missionaries of the Philippines) in Negros through our own Sister, Sr. Aquila. This help is for the northern part of Negros which was badly affected too. One small island, Makabayao was totally destroyed, with all 70 families who need houses, livelihood, everything! The media did not reach this small island (not like Tacloban which went international) so their plight was not known until recently. So far these are the three groups we have allocated funds too.
Thank you to our Australian Presentation Sisters, friends and supporters who have contributed to the appeal for the Philippines.
