The 140th Year of Presentation College Windsor Marked by Mosaic Mural
There was much joy and celebration on Presentation Day, 21 November, as the Presentation College Windsor community unveiled and blessed a beautiful mosaic mural symbolizing their 140 year history.
The mosaic was envisioned by PCW staff member and artist, Mrs Jill Allen, who worked with Year 10 students to bring it to life.
Sr Mary Kavanagh pbvm, whose connections with the college have been as student, staff member, principal and head of the boarding house, and continue to this day as friend and supporter, unveiled the mural. Mary reflected that PCW’s 140 years as a college span three quarters of the history of the state of Victoria itself, and that PCW’s contributions to education have been significant.
She spoke of the sacredness of place, noting that the mural is on the wall of the first building ever constructed as part of the school at PCW.
Bernadette Keating pbvm, Victorian Congregation Leader, blessed the mural and those gathered – students and staff, their families and friends, and Presentation Sisters. Principal, Ms Leonie Keaney paid special tribute to Year 10 students for their endeavour and commitment to the mural project, to Mrs Allen for her leadership and vision, and to the PCW Parent Association who so generously supported the project.
PCW will conclude its 140th anniversary in celebration at its “Welcome Mass” to be held on Thursday 13th February 2014 at St Ignatius’ Church in Richmond.
