I was a stranger and you welcomed me (Matt 25:35)
Anne Shay (Lismore Congregation) was invited to lead the service in the parish for the World Day of Prayer on 8 March 2013. The theme I was a stranger and you welcomed me was a timely challenge for our times when there is so little welcome for the stranger. The prayer looked at our Judeo-Christian heritage and brought out the strong message of welcome and care for the ‘alien in our midst’. The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt (Leviticus 24:22).
This led Anne to reflect on the contact that Lismore Presentation Sisters have had with asylum seekers and refugees over the years. Click here to read about this.
